Yanek Gruener was a small young boy when this started to happen. He heard it on the radio and the Germans came and told them the rules. They weren't allowed to go to school, movies, go to stores, the park, the pools, library, and they had a time limit. Then there was a concentration camp where the Jews had to work to their deaths. Yanek and his hid in a pigeon coop. Then all of his family got caught when they were outside working. Yanek got caught after all his family and he got deported. He put on blue striped cloths and wooden shoes.
He was put in a line with other Jews and he saw his uncle and called out to him and the kapo hit someone because he thought he talked. They went to his barracks and talked to his uncle. The next day he was put to work and then put to work at the Ghetto where he lived. He was to find valuables of the Jews it was empty because all of them were put to work or died. He found his flat and found his coat with something in it that his mom sewed in and he ripped it open and found 1000 dollars in it with his fathers too and found a pair of diamond earrings. He sneaked them in and gave it to his uncle.
His uncle knew someone that could buy food and he did. The next day at roll call he didn't see his uncle and asked where is he and the boy said i'm sorry he died Yanek didn't want to believe it but he knew he did and now he lost all his family and the money. He worked and worked with only had a small piece of bread and soup that taste like water. Later on there was a war between the Germans and the Americans, Russians, and British fought them for freedom for the Jews. Yanek walked for days in the cold with no bread or any food and then they were set free and he didn't know that he still had family and he found them but his father and mother died along with his aunts and uncles. He only had his cousins. He went to america and lived his life as a survivor of the holocaust.
